Eucalyptus, Globulus

Eucalyptus, Globulus
Eucalyptus globulus

Eucalyptus is used in multiple aspects of aromatherapy.  A staple for any medicine cupboard.  Of the hundreds of varieties of Eucalyptus, this is used most commonly through out the world. Eucalyptus is one of the oldest native medicines used in Australia. It is known for its use in inhalants and vapor rubs, and as a household disinfectant and cleaner.  Eucalyptus Radiata is best for skin use. Especially with children/babies.  Eucalyptus Citriodora is used in cleaning and bug repellents.

Eucalyptus is distilled from the leaves and twigs.  The aroma is fresh, penetrating, woody, and camphoraceous.  The properties of this oil are: analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-neuralgic, anti-rheumatic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, anti-viral, decongestant, deodorant, depurative, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, stimulant, vermifuge, and vulnerary.  One very important reason why many individuals use eucalyptus oil is its ability to address mental exhaustion through creating a cooling and refreshing effect. As a stimulant, it helps eradicate exhaustion and mental sluggishness, and rejuvenates “the spirits of the sick.”

The uses of eucalyptus include spiritual transformation as well! Eucalyptus brings into the light. This includes the relationship to our self, to others, to our work, and the divine. It promotes opening of the heart and solar plexus chakras.
